What is
Reflexology? The word
“reflex” is a non-medical term designating an involuntary reaction
to an outside stimulus. The “ology” is just the study of that
reaction. Reflexology is not massage. More similar to acupressure
than massage, reflexology is a fully comprehensible intentional
pressure point technique.
Reflexology is effective, drugless and
safe.
Reflexology sessions are given in a
professional office setting. Clients are invited into a treatment
room that offers soothing music, soft lighting, candles and
aromatherapy. Clients are interviewed about their feet and are
asked some basic health related questions. Clients remove their
socks and shoes and lay back on a heated treatment table. Moist
warm towels are applied to the feet. Reflex points are then worked
on the feet, hands and/or ears. The session ends with lotion and
essential oils applied to the feet.

Studies have shown that reflexology can
have a positive effect on health. However, it is not a panacea for all ills.
Reflexology is not a substitute for medical treatment, but can be used as a
compliment to any type of medical approach or therapy. Reflexology can also
be incorporated into an overall healthy lifestyle.
Reflexology is for all people of all ages, but there are some
contraindications. Please check with your physician to make sure reflexology
is right for you. |
